Should the soccer world cup organisers ban the Vuvuzelas from games? These are those South African horn things that are generating quite widespread complaint for their annoying, constant buzzing. They have drawn complaints both from players and spectators for being distracting and difficult to put up with.
My opinion? I really don't care TBH - but I would ask how do you think Waikato fans would react if you tried to take away their cow bells?
Dude, if these things are the same things the Bulls fans use then they are a massive pain in the ass. Cow bells don't come close to how annoying these are as the cowbell cannot be sustained as long (maybe it's just the crowd size and the availability of these) and the cowbell only comes out usually when something significant in the game is happening or a build up to something is happening.
Watch this highlights clipof the game and keep in mind the sound never lets up; it's like flies are inside your skull.
Im of two minds about this. 1. ban the fuckers they are pissing me off and 2. dont ban them I can mute the tv but all those English fans at the tournament have to listen to them.
I can understand the argument for crowd atmosphere etc and I'm sure the majority in the stadium love it; I get it, it's a crowd thing. When I'm watching this at a venue of under 30,000 people it doesn't have the same effect on me. Could the audio technicians not filter this ambient sound out for broadcasts?
Players can just harden up; playing away from home is meant to be harder.
No question, they definitely should. I watched my first match last night (Denmark vs Netherlands) and it was incredibly annoying. I feel bad for people who paid for flights and tickets to see matches live.
Cowbells are annoying live but not so bad on TV. But even live, they don't even compare to the annoyingness of these things.
I'm guilty of ringing the odd cow bell. I didn't sustain it for the whole match, mainly during goal kicks and rallying the team. That dude in Hamilton with the chain saw probably gets more on my nerves. As for the Vuzuelas, I wonder what these things sound like live?
...and I just read an article that TVNZ are "investigating technologies to implement" to solve the issue. Being a state-owned broadcaster, they'll probably spend several hundred thousand dollars on a much more complicated fix.

That is assuming I'e got the right instrument.
Yeah that's it - it's like there's a bees nest next to the camera for the entire game.

Should I really have to mute my TV to watch any sport that is played in any south African stadium.
Fuck I just realised it would suck to listen to live sport on radio.
i say yes ban 'em, they are bothering the players and the fans, it's not going to happen though

I thought the same thing - surely the technicians can figure out a way to remove the droning from the broadcast.
And I also agree that the players should stop being precious, whiney, drama-queen spoilt brats. Also they should stop complaining about the vuvuzelas.

yeah it's harder away because of things like altitude and heat...you can't acclimatise to noise
Sure you can. After that swan song in your ear goes away you don't even notice the noise.
OMG it isn't as complicated to do it as I thought. Check out the video on this link
