I know this is my second photo-whoring post in a row but just wanted to share my first foray into astrophotography. I present the galactic center, the bulging mass at the center of the Milky Way, containing a black hole the mass of 2.6 million suns. Of course you can't really see the black hole for two reasons, 1) it's black, and 2) it's obscured by dust. Those dark lanes than run across the plane of the galaxy are caused by interstellar dust blocking the starlight. This dust is the remnants of supernovae of the past and will one day form the new generation of stars. But enough rambling....

Just thought I'd share some pictures from the jib last night at the Foundry (uni pub). The lighting conditions were pretty much as bad as it gets so the whole night was a struggle but I came away with some half decent stuff.
